As for your knitting- every skill takes practise and sometimes we can't figure it out- You are not a failure - You took up a new hobby and have persisted even when you got discouraged. Sometimes you have to go back to it and try again. Do you have a local knitting shop- perhaps they have someone that can show you the stitch.
