Short Story Long

  January is swimming along.  We went to the zoo a couple weeks ago, have been to walks in the park, to visit friends, and one day I convinced my middle kid to go pick up trash at the park with me.  And we put in a new kitchen faucet, which does not leak.  Currently, I have eight items captured and crossed off my annual photo list, which is better than usual for this time of year.  The weather has been mild, and the skies bright, and that always makes it easier for me to do photo-creating, whereas the cool and dark weather makes me want to sink into blankets and read or do knitting-creating.   I am working on sleeping better.  I am a night owl by nature, but it doesn't fit as well with the rest of my world to be up late.  Instead of sitting on the computer, watching or listening to something while I knit into the wee hours, I've been working on reading books, which I hear is better for sleep.  Not sure.  I am not so extremely tir...

  How can we know what each day will bring until we greet it?  

I've been participating in this annual photo list challenge nine years, now.  What I like about it is that it pushes me to capture things I would normall pass by.  Some of the topic ideas leap readily to mind, but many are things that I have to hunt for, either literally or figuratively.  It also is good fodder for some interesting dates out with one of my boys.   It is one item longer every year.  I almost never get them all, but of course I do usually start the new year thinking I'm going to spread them out and get the shots I want for every single one.  This year, the list includes things like 'gargoyle' and 'at the water's edge'.  My oldest son and I were going to visit New York in April, and I thought that would be a perfect place to find a great gargoyle.  There are not many in Colorado!  Unfortunately, the state of the world made me reconsider our travel plans, and we did not go.  And with many of the items, it just did not w...

On an unseasonally warm morning in February, I met up with a group of photographers to photograph the early light on downtown Denver's skyline.  I don't have much else to say.  Maybe soon.

Happy New Year! I had a little chat with my boys a few days ago, that we would be discussing goals on the first and last days of the month this year.  They may have these big, trudging goals of the school years going by, and feel like there's not much they can do but wait it out.  But these days are so precious, and I want them to stop and realize that they can be working toward something  now to build a more intentional tomorrow.  We'll see how that goes. (Of course, this is also a practical lesson for us adults.) In recent years, we have had nothing too exciting planned for New Year's Eve, and have opted for an early New Year's Day photo shoot.  This year, with the changing of the decade we were invited to some fun parties, but already had in mind to get out for sunrise, so that's what we did.  I don't know if it was amazing , but it was a beautiful, regret-free morning, and we will be back to this spot (see photo) in the spring.  ...

Snows, like snowflakes: there are never two alike, and not all snows yield good snowflakes for photographing.   a January snow a November snow Any snow day is a good day for knitting.  Or reading.  Or looking at old photographs.  I was tempted to stay inside but I was in and out all day so I thought I might as well head down to the park and see what I could find.  No good snowflakes, but some lovely little ice globes on pine needles.  I'm knitting a Christmas present, and enjoying Lark Rise to Candleford .  It's time to break out the seasonal favorites .  If it is snowy tomorrow, I might get around to making some pizzelles.  Who knows!  What's your favorite snow-day craft??  

Sit and sip a nice cup of tea with me, while we chat!  After refreshing my memory about the things I've posted this year (not much!) what I see is that I really need to get down to something interesting and uplifting for you to read. The past month and a half, I have been working on a turquoise sweater for a friend and knitting patron who lives in Illinois.  I'll write up a little more about that later this week - maybe, if I remember!  I've got a couple of other projects just off the needles - but no pictures!  I guess I'll have to round them all up and tell you about them.   In the meantime, I have been so busy, and this summer included so many things where I was either the hostess, or primarily responsible for the planning, or photographing it!  In the past fourteen weeks, I believe we have had two weekends at home together.  I know many people would think that's a lot, but I don't run well on busy .  You know, I'm not going ...

A year or two ago, I joined a local photography group.  I was really hoping to make friends, and have a group to learn with, as I've had with my knitting group.  Photography is not quite the social setting, though.  What I have gotten out of it is a never-ending list of local places for photo-ops!   Recently, one of the members shared a local iris farm, and several members spent a morning taking pictures there.  Unfortunately, the excessive rain we've had this spring meant that the irises were not in full bloom as expected, but it was still an interesting find.  The owners live on sight and also have a beautiful little spot of "red" poppies.  Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day...   Maybe you can spot one of the challenges of this type of group?   And lastly, a shot from their vehicle graveyard, in case flowers aren't your thing: It's always nice to find new places in one'...
