photography: annual photo challenge

I've been participating in this annual photo list challenge nine years, now.  What I like about it is that it pushes me to capture things I would normall pass by.  Some of the topic ideas leap readily to mind, but many are things that I have to hunt for, either literally or figuratively.  It also is good fodder for some interesting dates out with one of my boys.

It is one item longer every year.  I almost never get them all, but of course I do usually start the new year thinking I'm going to spread them out and get the shots I want for every single one.  This year, the list includes things like 'gargoyle' and 'at the water's edge'.  My oldest son and I were going to visit New York in April, and I thought that would be a perfect place to find a great gargoyle.  There are not many in Colorado!  Unfortunately, the state of the world made me reconsider our travel plans, and we did not go.  And with many of the items, it just did not work out like I had expected in 2020.  Regardless, it has been fun to look back and see all the beautiful things that did happen this year.

I'm not quite done - still a few days left in the year to contemplate what 'moment in time' I should post, etc.  That being said, here is my 120 in 2020 set of pictures.

120 in 2020

I suspect everyone has had to redirect expecations this year.  But you're still here!!  What did you accomplish this year?

  1. You're a funny girl Karen! I was expecting to see 120 pictures LOL! This picture is worth 120 though -- it's beautiful! I did those photo challenges years ago and I really miss them -- they do force you to get out and look at things differently -- not to mention practice with the camera. Happy Happy New Year -- may it be healthy and happy -- in spite of our losses from the last year. XO

  2. Again, I wish I could take a class with you teaching me photography! I am glad I caught the Whoops and clicked on the photo to see the other ones. Loved seeing them all! Sometimes I think what was accomplished this year was done more inside me than anything I could show anyone...I hope I am more merciful, patient, joyful ,and persevering. Home is still my highest place to be where I am able to enjoy so many things.

garden panos from 2023

Last year, I made some effort (not thoroughly successful) to capture state-of-the-garden pictures every month, including panoramas stitched together on Photoshop, in order to get the whole view of what's happening.  So here's a little recap of the garden in 2023! early March April May June August It appears that I missed July, and either didn't take or didn't save this project in September, although we didn't have a killing frost very late into the season - we were still harvesting a few things in October.  As much as I loved the lettuce that was growing in the tunnel, and getting an early start on a few things, I'm not a fan of plastic anywhere, especially in my garden, so I am looking at options - cold boxes with old windows, etc.  I'm planning to start my 2024 garden this month - pea planting, planning, and seed starting in March!  What are you planting?

Night

I think he loves the lady, Night, And feels akin to her Whose footsteps are as still as his, Whose touch as soft as fur. Lois Weakley McKay ... a childhood favorite from The How and Why Library. Thank goodness my parents moved last year and sent this book my way. Otherwise, I would have just the first line running through my head forever!

Spring Means Baseball!

I've had this idea for a knitting pattern in my head and it's finally come to fruition!  I am still polishing up the pattern, but here's a quick peak:  PS:  There's more than one size and this one is too big for me but it was the only one I had "stitched up."
