I'm Back!

Monarda 'Jacob Cline'

Thanks for all the comments saying I'd be missed, that meant a lot.  Funny, though, it's only been a few days and I sometimes go longer than that between posts anyway.

If you want the long version - and let's face it, that's why you read my blog, right? - I had this program I'd downloaded a long time ago, can't remember why, and it never did anything.  Of course, at the time, I had my antivirus vaccines all up to date, but recently I was cleaning my computer out (so I thought) and deleted that file.  At this point, my antivirus ware was no longer current.  Little did I realize this program was just dormant, waiting for the day I would delete it to completely eat my computer!  Before it really got going, I pulled the plug, literally.  I am very fortunate to have a friend who actually said he would fix the whole thing  in trade for dinner.  He took it for a few days and here I am, better than new.  He upgraded my antivirus, my operating system, and bunches of things.  And I didn't even lose any files!  This is not to say I enjoyed Change.  I was spewing all sorts of non-sensical complaints, trying to figure out what had happened to my pictures, but they are all safe.  The friend mentioned that it took seven hours to copy over my pictures.  Um, yeah.  This brings to mind one of my To Do items which has remained on the list for over a month: clean out picture files.  Guess I better do that.  But that will have to wait until tomorrow, it's going to take hours!

I'm lucky lucky lucky.  I know it.  I am going to listen to my husband next time he tells me something like I should have an extra harddrive.

More later!

  2. And then, one day, the external hard drive crashes....

Computers...love and hate relationship. I need to clean out my pictures too -- but the task seems so huge -- it's just another giant UFO.

    Yay! You're Back!!!

  4. Oh girlfriend...didn't you learn from my little computer mishaps? You totally need to get yourself an external back up hard drive. They are not that much money and in comparison to loosing EVERYTHING! TRUST ME...so worth it.

Just reading this makes me want to back up my stuff again even though I just did it yesterday. Yep, going to back it all up right now :-)

  5. Wow, what a close call! I don't think I've done more than back up some quilt and photo files--and that was a long time ago. But I DO keep my antivirus up to date, so all is not totally lost.

Glad to see you're back sooner than you thought.

  6. While you're adding "clean out picture files" to your To-Do list...why don't you add "buy external hard drive and set up scheduled backups" right above it? :) I have five different backups and I still never feel 'safe' about my data.

Glad to hear you didn't lose anything.

  7. Yay for good friends who can fix your ailing computer! Glad you're back among the "living" Karen!
    Cheers!

  8. It's always a good idea to have a computer whiz in your call-a-friend list!

garden panos from 2023

Last year, I made some effort (not thoroughly successful) to capture state-of-the-garden pictures every month, including panoramas stitched together on Photoshop, in order to get the whole view of what's happening.  So here's a little recap of the garden in 2023! early March April May June August It appears that I missed July, and either didn't take or didn't save this project in September, although we didn't have a killing frost very late into the season - we were still harvesting a few things in October.  As much as I loved the lettuce that was growing in the tunnel, and getting an early start on a few things, I'm not a fan of plastic anywhere, especially in my garden, so I am looking at options - cold boxes with old windows, etc.  I'm planning to start my 2024 garden this month - pea planting, planning, and seed starting in March!  What are you planting?

Spring Means Baseball!

I've had this idea for a knitting pattern in my head and it's finally come to fruition!  I am still polishing up the pattern, but here's a quick peak:  PS:  There's more than one size and this one is too big for me but it was the only one I had "stitched up."
