Red Sunflowers

6802 backlit red

I had such a great response to my red sunflowers last year, that I planted all the rest of the seeds this year.  They are such beautiful flowers.

This morning, as I was talking pictures in the garden, the Bruise shared with me that his teacher told him there are not red sunflowers.  I asked for a clarification on that.  Apparently, he had added to a discussion about sunflowers, "...and red ones."  To which she replied, "You mean tulips or roses.  Sunflowers are not red."  Guess who will be learning something at school tomorrow!

  1. Hahaha! Good for you guys. I've always wondered why, when a child says something that doesn't sound quite right, teachers don't ask some questions and try to figure out why a child believes what they say. Maybe the good ones do! I hope you'll report back and tell us how it went!

  2. Love it! I had lots of different sunflowers last year--gold and red and bronzed and bi-colored--and different sizes, too. Who knew?

garden panos from 2023

Last year, I made some effort (not thoroughly successful) to capture state-of-the-garden pictures every month, including panoramas stitched together on Photoshop, in order to get the whole view of what's happening.  So here's a little recap of the garden in 2023! early March April May June August It appears that I missed July, and either didn't take or didn't save this project in September, although we didn't have a killing frost very late into the season - we were still harvesting a few things in October.  As much as I loved the lettuce that was growing in the tunnel, and getting an early start on a few things, I'm not a fan of plastic anywhere, especially in my garden, so I am looking at options - cold boxes with old windows, etc.  I'm planning to start my 2024 garden this month - pea planting, planning, and seed starting in March!  What are you planting?
