Oh Here's My Blog!

Was I gone awhile?  A few of you wrote to ask if I was alright, thank you!  You may have thought I lost my way.  I guess I did.  I was stressed / depressed through most of October and I was too busy, but now I'm not.  So there you go.  So I'm back!  Two good things have happened to me recently.  One is that I have done some reevaluating of my life, and have trimmed back a few things that...  just aren't as important as the time they were taking.  I'm increasing my margins, as my dad would say.  The second thing is that my parents came for a visit, which is funny because they don't live that far away, but they came for a couple of days.  (We wanted them to.)  They were willing to do whatever I wanted so that included helping me get my car to the mechanic, some decorative woodwork that needed touching up, making Christmas neckties for the guys, making cookies, reading with the boys, and so on.  Sometimes you just need your parents around!!

I have taken a renewed interest in the monthly photo scavenger hunt and I'm determined to have a strong finish.  Wish me luck; I think I've only hit all twelve items for the month twice, and that was back in the spring.  I'll post some of those another day.  For now, here's a picture that makes me giddy:  we are still eating out of our garden in November!  Still growing:  carrots, onions, parsley, sage, rosemary and mint.

  1. Yum -- look at those carrots! I've been a slacker on the photo challenge too -- I hit them all until July or August and then...once you miss one, it's just easier to miss the mark the next month. I'd like to get back to it too -- I really did enjoy it. I'm glad you had a little catch up with your parents -- it's good to see you back!

  2. So good to see you again, Karen! No matter what age - your parents can always be such a boost to morale -- and yours are very special ;>) Look at those carrots! I picked all mine last month but I think they will serve us well all winter long!
    Cheers!

  3. This is the first year I've grown carrots--and they were from a packet of seeds given to us for nurses' day back in May. I stuck them in a tall pot and boom--carrots!

Sometimes life happens; I know full well how that is. Glad to see you posting again!

garden panos from 2023

Last year, I made some effort (not thoroughly successful) to capture state-of-the-garden pictures every month, including panoramas stitched together on Photoshop, in order to get the whole view of what's happening.  So here's a little recap of the garden in 2023! early March April May June August It appears that I missed July, and either didn't take or didn't save this project in September, although we didn't have a killing frost very late into the season - we were still harvesting a few things in October.  As much as I loved the lettuce that was growing in the tunnel, and getting an early start on a few things, I'm not a fan of plastic anywhere, especially in my garden, so I am looking at options - cold boxes with old windows, etc.  I'm planning to start my 2024 garden this month - pea planting, planning, and seed starting in March!  What are you planting?

Thank goodness my parents moved last year and sent this book my way. Otherwise, I would have just the first line running through my head forever!

Spring Means Baseball!

I've had this idea for a knitting pattern in my head and it's finally come to fruition!  I am still polishing up the pattern, but here's a quick peak:  PS:  There's more than one size and this one is too big for me but it was the only one I had "stitched up."
