Long Overdue

Many things are long overdue around here.  As my mother says, "Karen was born late, Danny was born early, Christy was born right on time, and they've been that way ever since."  I really do make an effort (some times more than others) to be timely but I've come to realize I'm an optimist.  I assume everything will run smoothly, there will be no traffic jams, and I will be well prepared at exactly the moment I should be leaving to go to the next Thing.  Of course, this does not happen, but in my mind I know it will the next time. 

Here are a couple of things I've been meaning to post in regards to my blog friends.  

First of all, last December, I won a book from Miss Jean, and I never properly thanked her.  It is A Touch of Rosie Quilts, and while I haven't quilted yet this year, that is on my list of things to get back to!  It is a beautiful book, and very inspiring.  Thanks, Jean!  Jean also recently moved to Colorado; I hope you are settling in well!

Secondly, my friend Terrie awarded my blog with the Liebster Award the week before I left town, and I have not posted a response! Thank you, Terrie, I'm honored!  Before I go on with that, let me say a few things about Terrie.  She is my friend in real life; I met her at a local knitting group.  Now I teach knitting on the night that group meets, and rarely get to sit with the group, but I'm always happy to see Terrie walk into the shop.  She's quiet, but when she opens up, you realize how smart and kind she is.  And she's very good at math.  I sent her a pattern I was writing last year, and she fixed the math errors for the larger size, which I had inadvertently skipped over.  If you read her blog, you know how much she loves her cats!  I like Terrie and I'm glad we've become friends!!

Liebster is a German word meaning favorite, dearest or beloved. The Liebster Blog Award is awarded by bloggers to other bloggers who have fewer than 200 followers, to help spread the word about their blogs and to help them gain wider recognition.

I can't figure out where this data is, so I'm going to make some guesses here.  And how to pick just five?!

Terrie said this is the hard part, and I suspect that is because she's quiet, like I said.  For me, it's difficult because there's not a lot people don't know about me!  Hmm.  I'll go with some facts that perhaps are not widely known...  It would be awesome if I thought of something not even BFJ knows, but I'm not really a secret keeper!!  

• I deeply regret that I did not work harder to get an art degree when I was young / single / not a mother, but it is still on my list of things to accomplish in life.  
• I believe that everything is going to work out.  In my experience, it does, and this is not a coincidence. This is not to ignore the fact that many times I could have made things easier on myself!
• I have a love / hate relationship with mysteries.  I love that there are still things out in the world that we don't know about - long forgotten treasures, new species.  I would hate to think there's nothing left to discover.  However, when I was 12, one of my cousin's best friends went missing (they were 14) and I have never gotten over wondering what happened to her, and how hard that must be for her family to let go of.  I find this event has informed a lot of my decisions as a parent.  But I do still believe that everything is going to work out.  
• I love listening to Chris Cornell sing because I think his voice sounds dark brown, like coffee grounds and rich soil.  I also like the number 4 because it is red. 
• I make my own chocolate frosting and I don't think I can go back to buying it!
