Winners and Socks

Winners first: the first three bloggers to comment were Judy, Candace, and Audrey. Remember to pay it forward! Cheryl was the first non-blogger to comment. Thank you for playing along, ladies! Cheryl, please leave me your email so I can contact you! Now, what will I make for them? Hmmm... So many fun choices. I'm going to have to think about it awhile.

So here's how I came to make socks: I have this friend,
Marly, I've taken pictures for, and she wanted to repay the favor. She said she'd teach me to knit socks. I had a couple of projects going and I was not in a hurry to learn socks; they just didn't grab me. Finally, she caught me between projects and gave me this beautiful yarn; she knows my favorite color is red! Sitting around the table at the yarn shop, she got me started on my first pair of socks. I was talking to one of the other knitters about who we were going to give socks to, and Marly said, "I hope you are making these for yourself!" I wouldn't dream of giving such a nice gift away. After a few weeks' work, I got the first one done, and you know, it's kind of nice, and getting it done, I was inspired to start on the second. That one was finished much quicker, thankfully, and here I have my first pair of knitted socks. And I love them! And now they kinda grab me! Thanks, Marly, for the yarn, and for teaching me how to fish.

Speed has been asking me to knit him socks for months, and BFJ has identified THE socks he wants me to make. They are the blue and yellow socks on the cover of
Sensational Knitted Socks. Not socks like that; those socks. By the way, this is the book that Marly recommended way back, because it helps you figure out your size, not just S, M, L, and a few other great sections. My mom volunteered to be on the sock receiver list, too. I hope the next pair goes as smoothly as my first. I'm not saying they're perfect, (one is a few rows shorter than the other, and I can see a few other mistakes) but they are good enough, and fun! And fun to wear.

So far, I've made hats, a scarf, some fingerless gloves, and some socks. This knitting thing is working for me! Thank you, Dear, for encouraging me to sign up for the first class.

  3. I was going to reply to the comment you left me, but you said you finished your first pair of socks so I had to run over here and check them out. OhMyGosh! This is your first pair??? They're gorgeous! I read your whole post -- did I miss somewhere what pattern they are? They really look familiar to me -- I made a pair that look like this -- I'm wondering if it's the same pattern??? LOVE that red!

garden panos from 2023

Last year, I made some effort (not thoroughly successful) to capture state-of-the-garden pictures every month, including panoramas stitched together on Photoshop, in order to get the whole view of what's happening.  So here's a little recap of the garden in 2023! early March April May June August It appears that I missed July, and either didn't take or didn't save this project in September, although we didn't have a killing frost very late into the season - we were still harvesting a few things in October.  As much as I loved the lettuce that was growing in the tunnel, and getting an early start on a few things, I'm not a fan of plastic anywhere, especially in my garden, so I am looking at options - cold boxes with old windows, etc.  I'm planning to start my 2024 garden this month - pea planting, planning, and seed starting in March!  What are you planting?

Thank goodness my parents moved last year and sent this book my way. Otherwise, I would have just the first line running through my head forever!

Spring Means Baseball!

I've had this idea for a knitting pattern in my head and it's finally come to fruition!  I am still polishing up the pattern, but here's a quick peak:  PS:  There's more than one size and this one is too big for me but it was the only one I had "stitched up."
